Basil starts planted from seed under heat and sun lamps and out in the Missouri spring/summer warmth – started them in peat pellet trays covered up greenhouse style until large enough to transplant into larger cups as temporary pots. They’ve since grown into about 3-4 inch tall little plants with healthy, strong, big leaves. They’re so healthy and impressive looking, that the local bugs won’t stop trying to eat them! The leaves, when left ALONE (I’m looking at you, pests!), are huge already – big leafy green leaves that smell wonderfully like fresh Basil on the breeze. Occassionally I cull the bigger ones and wash them off to use in caprese, encouraging the plant to branch when necessary. I need more time to see how any adult plants will fair, but the seeds seem to grow very attractive and green/healthy looking and tasting basil so far! They’re doing so well that now that it’s coming into late summer/early fall here in Missouri, I need them in bigger pots!
